Volunteer Construction Site Supervisor

Old Colony Habitat For Humanity is seeking dedicated Volunteer Construction Site Supervisors to oversee our new residential home projects from inception to completion, working closely with the Build Lead. As a Site Supervisor, you’ll play a vital role in supervising contractors and leading volunteers, ensuring that our homes are built safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.

Site Supervisor Qualifications

  • Experience in and knowledge of differing trades, tools, and building techniques required for effective coordination, collaboration, and construction.
  • Responsible for the management and safety of the construction site, ensuring the smooth and timely completion of all work by contractors and volunteers.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to supervise a diverse team.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to work mostly on the job site.
  • Belief in Habitat’s mission of providing homes for low-income families.

Site Supervisor Primary Responsibilities

  • Supervise the job site on designated workdays, including:
    • Supervising onsite contractors, providing guidance and support as needed.
    • Supervising the assigned Leads who are working with our volunteers.
    • Ensuring readiness for contractors (all pre-work complete and materials onsite).
    • Ensuring access to the required tools and materials for our volunteers.
    • Conducting regular inspections to ensure quality control and identify any issues or defects.
    • Providing a brief end-of-day status to the Build Lead (via phone, text, or email).
  • Participating in weekly Build Site meetings to review status, issues, and upcoming tasks.
  • Pass Habitat’s “Competent Person” training and implement safety practices for all onsite work.
  • Supervise warranty repairs.

Site Supervisor Secondary Responsibilities

  • Assist the Build Lead to obtain variance and building permit inputs (e.g., plot plan).
  • Provide input to the Project Plans.
  • Assist the Build Lead in creating contract specifications (e.g., paving) and bills of material (e.g., decking).
  • Participate in inspections (town and HERS).
  • Assist the Build Lead to create and manage the Punch List.
  • Attend the Monthly Build Committee Call.
  • Assist the Build Lead to document and review Lessons Learned.
