Celebrating National Homeownership Month
At Old Colony Habitat for Humanity, this month is especially meaningful. After months of planning, building, volunteering, and community support, the Marmol Family will soon be moving into their new home. What began as an old meeting house, then a construction site, has been transformed into a place where family dinners will be shared, milestones will be celebrated, and lifelong memories will be made.

More Than a House, A Place to Call Home
Homeownership creates a foundation for families to thrive. It provides stability, builds equity, and offers a sense of pride that extends beyond the front door. Through Habitat’s homeownership program, families work alongside volunteers and invest hundreds of hours of sweat equity before purchasing their homes with an affordable mortgage. It’s a partnership that helps create lasting success for generations to come.
Here are Some Fun Facts!
- The average person spends about one-third of their life at home.
- Homeowners complete an average of several DIY projects each year, ranging from painting rooms to planting gardens.
- Landscaping can significantly boost curb appeal and make a home feel more welcoming.
- Simple upgrades like LED light bulbs, programmable thermostats, and weather stripping can help reduce energy costs.
Homeowner Tip of the Month
Create a simple home maintenance checklist. Changing HVAC filters regularly, checking smoke detector batteries, cleaning gutters, and inspecting caulking around windows can help prevent costly repairs down the road. Create a repeating reminder on your phone, get those notifications!
As we celebrate this month, we’re reminded that a home is about so much more than walls and a roof. It’s about security, opportunity, and the chance to build a brighter future!
We are honored to celebrate the Marmol Family as they prepare to receive the keys to their new home. Their journey is a testament to what can happen when a community comes together with a shared purpose.
Thank you to every volunteer, donor, sponsor, and supporter who helped make this dream possible!
