Old Colony Habitat is excited to again be building a new single family home in partnership with a selected habitat family. Construction of the two story, 1400 square foot home began in mid-May and is expected to be completed in early 2017. The ultra-low maintenance home will be Energy Star rated and is expected to be the most energy efficient Habitat home built by Old Colony Habitat to date.
The new home will feature three bedrooms on the second floor with a bathroom and extra storage. The first floor is designed as an open floor plan with an open kitchen, dining and living space. The home is being constructed with a full basement that will allow for expansion in the future.
For the first time ever, all of the Holman Street house exterior and interior framing is being pre-cut off site using a CAD driven CNC machine. Every stud, plate and header will be delivered, labelled and ready to install. As an added assurance of construction quality, all studs are tenon jointed and will be screwed in place.
Home owner Sandra Hovigimian and her two sons are excited to get started with their volunteer work. Sandra will be required to complete 250 hours of sweat equity work on the house prior to taking title and moving into her new home.
We love our Volunteers!
