Old Colony Habitat and HFHI

Old Colony Habitat for Humanity is a locally run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization. Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build and renovate decent, affordable housing. The houses then are sold to those in need at no profit and with no interest charged.

Volunteers provide most of the labor, and individual and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses. Partner families themselves invest hundreds of hours of labor - "sweat equity" - into building their homes and the homes of others. Their mortgage payments go into a revolving Fund for Humanity that is used to build more houses.

The Habitat for Humanity International web site contains more information on Habitat's history, mission, volunteer opportunities and contact information for other Habitat affiliates around the world.

Old Colony Habitat for Humanity was founded in 1989 and was known as Attleboro Area Habitat for Humanity till recently when its name was changed to reflect its committment to serve several communities in the area. In October 1997, it completed its first project at 17 Holman Street in Attleboro. In September 2002, it completed its second Project at 478 South Worcester Street in Norton.
